Evella acoustic interior panels are a quick and easy way to create a modern, architectural look in a space. The panels, suited to modern Scandinavian style, create a seamless slatted wall surface and significantly improve room acoustics.

The panel's backing felt is 100% recycled polyester fibre, specially designed to reduce noise and remove room reverberation. MDF slats attached over the backing felt are covered with real wood veneer, giving the panel a naturally beautiful finish. Installation can be done with the supplied screws or with adhesive purchased separately.

Principle of operation
A slatted acoustic panel reduces sound in two ways:

• The felt acts as an absorptive material that absorbs sound

• The slats and their gaps disperse sound by diffraction, scattering it in different directions

Although the slatted panel does not absorb sound as effectively as a traditional acoustic board, it often creates a more balanced and natural acoustic particularly suitable for living spaces. The difference is noticeable in, for example, clearer speech or reduced echoes of loud noises such as bangs.

Natural sound environment
The panel's natural effect comes from part of the sound being reflected by the slats and scattered more softly. This shortens the reverberation and makes the room less echoey, improving comfort for living and working. Especially for speech, the listener has to process less reverberant sound, which also helps hearing clarity, for example for people with hearing impairment.

Tip! You can easily test a room's reverberation by clapping your hands once in different spots. In a 'hard' room you will hear how long the reverberation rings after the clap.

Installation
Panels are easiest to screw directly onto battens. For concrete walls, horizontal battens are recommended. The supplied black drywall screws blend into the felt, and extra screws are readily available from builders' merchants.

If you want to extend the frequency range a little lower – for example for music listening – you can:

• Install the panel slightly off the wall onto battens so the sound does not reflect immediately back after passing through the felt and instead reflects across multiple interfaces

• Add mineral wool between the battens to increase absorption. The wool or acoustic panel added between can even be used and slightly worn on the surface, as it will be hidden

The panel can also be installed directly over partition wall insulation without plasterboard, but this limits the effect to the room's internal acoustics. The downside is sound transmits more easily to the adjacent room and the panel is not as effective as a sound insulator as a missing plasterboard would be.

Practicality
Evella panels offer an easy way to finish large surfaces without demolition or plastering work. They are suitable for walls and ceilings and can be installed quickly.
