Here’s a rather interesting “Dillen Aspen”! With this car you certainly won’t go unnoticed and you’ll blend effortlessly among all the Teslas and Polestars — you can even compare electricity savings over coffee at the petrol station. Damn, in reality you won’t be able to drive a metre in peace; people queue up for photos at petrol stations, the phone rings constantly and you’ll mercilessly become your village’s top raggari as the owner. The engine note practically begs for a can of beer in your hand, and you won’t feel like sitting in the driver’s seat while it’s moving. When imported to Finland in 1980 it carried diplomatic plates, but in its current guise I’d expect at least a Kennedy-style reception if you try to drive it through an embassy gate or into the parliament car park on a Friday evening. Anyway, enough joking.

Now to the more serious stuff — the technical details. The most important feature of this car is the paperwork. It originally had a 5.9 L (360 cid) engine with a belt-driven blower, which is documented in the re-approved inspection paperwork, including any hood modifications. Also, this year model is not yet required to have an emissions test at inspection. At the moment the drivetrain is a basic 5.2 L (318) + 904 setup so the car is roadworthy again. The belt-driven components removed from this car currently power another Avo-Aspen. A few years ago the 318 engine had a new camshaft, lifters, timing cover, fuel pump and distributor fitted. More recently the engine oil and oil filter were changed and the fuel filter, spark plugs, ignition leads, coil with resistor and coolant were renewed.

Inspection passed successfully on 10 April 2026 with a full three-item repair order. Only one item remains unrepaired: a crack in the windscreen. Road tax/usage is valid until 10 April 2028.

The Aspen received extensive refurbishment before the inspection and shouldn’t need welding for a long time, if ever. Replaced items include the battery (Exide), front brake discs, front brake pads with fitting kits, brake calipers, all brake hoses, front wheel bearings, all shock absorbers, rear brake drums and cylinders, rear brake shoes with all small parts, handbrake cables, rear brake pipes, brake fluid and the heater core. The audio system has also been rebuilt with new 6x9 speakers, a radio antenna and a modern Bluetooth player with remote control. This car is well known to vehicle enthusiasts in Kanta-Häme and has seen its tyres laid down on many occasions (of course only in controlled, closed environments), so the rear tyres were recently replaced. The old tyre treads have conveniently been turned into sound deadening in the rear wheel arches.

The exterior has been deliberately left a bit rough. No weekly washes or monthly waxing needed — you can use that time to read books and educate yourself (just an example). The photos should show the condition well; if in doubt, feel free to come and see it in person. It drives like an everyday car; it’s relatively quiet inside and helpful features include power brakes, power steering and seat belts front and rear.

Some faults/features: The rear tyres rub slightly in the arches on uneven gravel sections. The ammeter is dead and the temperature gauge is intermittent (usually springs to life if you wiggle the sensor wiring). The Brake warning lamp is lit in the dash — it doesn’t affect top speed. Reverse gears aren’t working at the moment because the gear linkage was welded/assembled hastily in the rain at midnight. Power steering fluid occasionally drips onto the ground; otherwise the interior is tidy.
