Ready to use immediately, the freezing toilet requires no water connection, drain or additional ventilation. Just plug it into a socket. Its portability and plug & play installation make it an optimal choice for summer cottages and any drain-free space. The oval 21‑litre inner container fits a biodegradable bag that can be removed hygienically for composting.

Outstanding energy efficiency
The Ekohytte Frost has been designed with energy economy in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra‑thick insulation make it extremely economical. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per 24 h — about half the consumption of comparable competing products. The toilet's thick base insulation and high adjustable feet allow use on underfloor‑heated floors; however, the freezing toilet should be installed in a heated space.

Before use

• After unpacking, check the product for damage. Contact the seller if you notice any damage.

• Keep the unit upright for at least half an hour. Any oil that may have flowed into the cooling circuit during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet is level and stable.

• The seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything non‑compostable in it, such as rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed indoors in a heated space. It can be used on underfloor‑heated floors thanks to the thick base insulation and high feet. Heat will increase the unit's power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Ensure the seat is level and secure using the adjustable feet.

Use

• Press the base of the bio‑bag into the container and fold the bag edges over the container so it can be lowered into the seat

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly

• Plug into the wall socket and switch the toilet on; the green indicator will light

• Wait about one hour before first use

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two‑thirds full, the bio‑bag should be changed

• Fold the top edges of the bio‑bag into the container and lift the bucket out of the seat

• Compost the waste in a household or garden compost bin where you have added plenty of dry material before emptying

• Pierce the bag surface, for example with a garden fork, and cover with a layer of dry material

• Check for ice buildup around the bucket rim. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

• Place a new bag in position

Use of dry material
No dry material is required for the freezing toilet. Dry material is only needed for subsequent composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You can use all common household cleaners. The container can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water to clean the rear cooling compartment. Clean it once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods of non‑use

• Unplug the unit

• Empty, clean and dry the container and cooling compartment

• Leave the lid open

• The unit can be stored in an unheated space
