Ready to use straight away, the freezing toilet requires no water connection, drain or ventilation installation. Just plug it into a socket. Its portability and plug & play installation make it an ideal choice for summer cottages and any premises without sewage. The oval 21‑litre inner bucket takes a biodegradable bag that can be removed hygienically for composting.

Exceptional energy efficiency
The Ekohytte Frost has been designed with particular attention to energy economy. Optimised compressor technology and extra‑thick insulation make it extremely economical to run. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per 24 hours — roughly half the consumption of similar competing products. The thick base insulation and adjustable high feet allow use on underfloor‑heated floors, but the freezing toilet must be installed in a heated space.

Before use

• After unpacking, check the product for damage. Contact the seller if you notice any damage.

• Leave the unit upright for at least 30 minutes. Oil that may have moved into the circuit during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Set them before use so the toilet is stable and level.

• The toilet seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that does not compost there, e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts.

Placement
The toilet must be placed in a warm indoor space. It can be used on underfloor‑heated floors thanks to its thick base insulation and high feet. Heat will increase the unit's power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it close to a radiator or other heat source. The optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Ensure the toilet is level and secure it using the feet.

• Press the base of the bio‑bag into the bucket and fold the top edges over the bucket so it can be lowered into the seat.

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug into the socket and switch the unit on; the green indicator light will illuminate.

• Wait about one hour before first use.

Emptying

• Change the bio‑bag when the bucket is about two‑thirds full.

• Fold the top edges of the bio‑bag into the bucket and lift it out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden compost bin to which you have added plenty of dry material before emptying.

• Pierce the bag surface, e.g. with a fork, and cover with a layer of dry material.

• Check for ice build‑up around the edges of the bucket well. If necessary, thaw and dry the walls.

• Place a new bag in position.

Use of absorbents
Absorbents are not needed in a freezing toilet. They are only required for subsequent composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You can use common household cleaners. The bucket can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before replacing. Do not use water on the rear cooling chamber wall; vacuum it once a year.

Longer periods out of use

• Disconnect the unit from the mains.

• Empty, clean and dry the bucket and freezing chamber.

• Leave the lid open.

• The unit may be stored in an unheated space.
