The Ekohytte Frost freezing toilet has been designed with energy economy in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra‑thick insulation make it extremely energy‑efficient. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per 24 hours — about half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and high adjustable feet mean the freezing WC should be installed in a heated indoor space.

Before first use

• After unpacking, check the unit for damage. Contact the seller if you find any damage.

• Leave the device upright for at least 30 minutes. Any oil that may have collected in the refrigerant during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The device has adjustable feet. Set them before use so the toilet stands firmly and level.

• The seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that does not compost (e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts) into it.

Placement
The toilet must be placed indoors in a warm space. It can be used on underfloor‑heated floors owing to its thick base insulation and high feet. Heat increases the device's power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. Optimal room temperature is +10–+22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Ensure the toilet is level and stable using the adjustable feet.

Operation

• Press the biodegradable bag into the base of the inner container and fold the bag rim over the container so the container can be placed into the seat.

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug into the wall and switch the unit on; the green indicator will light.

• Wait about one hour before first use.

Emptying

• When the bucket is about two‑thirds full, the bio‑bag should be replaced.

• Fold the top rim of the bag into the container and lift the container out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden composter to which you have added plenty of dry cover material before emptying.

• Tear the bag surface (for example with a fork) and cover with a layer of dry cover material.

• Check for ice build‑up around the bucket edges. Defrost if necessary and dry the walls.

• Fit a new bag.

Use of absorbents
Absorbents are not required in a freezing toilet. They should only be added during post‑composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use common household cleaners. The inner container can be removed and washed with water; dry it before refitting. Do not use water on the rear cooling chamber wall. Clean it once a year by vacuuming.

Longer periods of non‑use

• Unplug the device.

• Empty, clean and dry the container and the cooling well.

• Leave the lid open.

• The device may be stored in an unheated space.
