Here’s a proper rear-wheel-drive Merc for some winter fun! And you won’t need to keep it just for winter, as its MOT is valid until July 2027, so it will handle your summer driving too!

Under the bonnet is the legendary cast-iron-block OM646, known for its almost bombproof durability. These engines have reportedly covered up to 600,000 km without being opened up, so this is certainly no lightweight. It is paired, of course, with the good old 6-speed manual gearbox.

The Merc starts instantly, and there are no unusual knocks or other oddities from the engine. It runs smoothly and purrs like a little kitten. The gears engage firmly and the clutch does exactly what it should.

The body is surprisingly tidy for the mileage, and overall the car made a very sensible impression. Not some completely worn-out wreck, but a perfectly respectable old-school diesel Merc!

The service book is also definitely worth looking through! I’d venture to say that not every 2008 C-Class has a service history recorded this neatly. It is clear that the car has not simply been driven and serviced whenever someone happened to remember, but has genuinely been looked after.

Of course, a car of this age is not completely faultless. The only unusual thing noted is a slight vibrating noise from the left rear at idle and at speeds below 5 km/h. The noise disappears as soon as the accelerator is pressed, and the exact cause has not been investigated further.
