Volvo V70, 2010, Pori

Now up for auction: the legendary Volvo V70 2.4i, or that famous “god engine” – a naturally aspirated straight-five that has made Volvo enthusiasts smile for decades. This highly aerodynamic brick is now looking for a new hero of the open road. Could that be you?

Good things to say:

God engine

More space than the average studio flat

Carries dogs, cats and in-laws

Features developed over time (some call them faults)

The power steering has retired; speed or strength is required.

The ABS light is on, so one of the Christmas lights is already suitably lit.

The brakes are very worn, but still bite.

The summer tyres are worn out. Drivable, but liable to get you fined.

The starter jumps when starting.

The electric tailgate keeps practising opening, but locking is not currently among its strengths.

Plenty of rust on the metal at the top edge of the windscreen.

Who would this car suit?

This car suits anyone.

But not just anyone suits this car.

So be one of the few, chosen and unique people worthy of this honour. Bid now and get yourself at least a god engine with a transport box.

Test drive: The car drives OK. It performs as expected for its mileage. Note that the lack of power steering makes turning difficult, especially at low speeds; the brakes only bite properly when the pedal is pressed harder.

Mechanics: The power steering does not work. The brakes only engage properly when the pedal is pressed firmly, although they do work. The ABS light is on; the fault has not been identified. The windscreen is also cracked.

Tyres: Illegal due to insufficient tread. Wheels are good, see pictures. Note: no additional tyres or wheels.

Interior: In OK condition for its age and mileage. See pictures.

Body condition: Good considering the mileage, with no major rust on the body. The worst visible rust is at the roof/windscreen junction; see pictures.

Service history: See pictures.
