Museum-inspected Opel Omega, 1993, Kotka

Owned from new, meaning 33 years with the same owner in Turku.

The owner turned 90 in late 2025 and his licence was no longer renewed.

At that point, a neighbour saved the car and had it museum-inspected without any modifications.

I then bought the car for myself.

The car is completely original and exceptionally well preserved.

During its 33 years, the car’s underside has been treated with rustproofing several times and will last until the end of the world.

Other similar cars were scrapped long ago.

Despite extensive searching, the precise service records have not been found, although everything showed that the car had been very well cared for.

As a precaution, a full service was therefore carried out.

Includes very good winter tyres on the original alloy wheels.

Next inspection at the end of 2029.

- Tow bar fitted

The car drives extremely well, with no extraneous noises whatsoever.

Immaculate interior; the headlining is not sagging and the seats are not coming apart.

NO MORE OF THESE PROBLEMS...

EGR valve – Exhaust gas recirculation. Gets clogged with carbon, especially in short-distance driving. Symptoms include juddering, loss of power and a warning light.

* DPF particulate filter (diesel) – Becomes blocked if the car is driven mainly on short trips and the filter cannot burn off the soot.

* SCR/AdBlue system (diesel) – Sensors, pump or heater may fail. Repairs can cost hundreds or even thousands of euros.

* Turbo – Usually durable, but neglected oil changes or constant strain when cold shorten its service life.

* Direct injection (petrol) – Carbon deposits build up on the intake valves because petrol no longer washes them.

* Wet timing belt – On some engines, the belt may fail prematurely and cause expensive engine damage.

* Dual-mass flywheel – Wears particularly in diesels. Symptoms include vibration and rattling.

* Automatic gearboxes – Good, but require oil changes, even though manufacturers sometimes refer to “lifetime oil”.

* Complex electronics – Cameras, radars, touchscreens, sensors and control units increase the possibility of faults.

NOTHING BUT CAREFREE, ADMIRATION-GATHERING, PLEASANT MILES...

Must sell because there is no longer any garage space.

It certainly attracts the admiration it deserves on dates: “Do these still exist?” ...
