Skoda Superb, 2016, Rovaniemi

A reasonably priced practical car for the next owner, and an excellent winter car too.

The engine management has been mapped to about 180 hp. Torque and power now come in right from low revs and build very smoothly; in my use the fuel consumption has also been lower than with the standard map. If preferred, the software can be returned to stock.

Finnish car, four-wheel drive and 6-speed manual, so there’s no need to worry about DSG automatic gearbox issues.

As with the Superb, there’s plenty of space, yet it’s still amazingly economical for its size.

The mileage is 322,000 km, so this is not being sold as a new car. Over the years the body has picked up stone chips, dents and scratches, and some of them have been repaired.

This much-used daily driver is starting to show its age, but the overall impression is still very respectable. Zoom in on the photos at your leisure; they show the condition best.

The latest service recorded in the digital service book was done in 11/2025 at 293,000 km.
The timing belt was replaced at 186,000 km. The belt change interval on these is 210,000 km, so there’s no immediate rush for a timing job.

Oil and filters were changed about 10,000 km ago. This service is not recorded in the digital service book because the workshop that carried it out did not have access to Skoda’s electronic service system.

New shock absorbers, brake discs and pads, and front wheel bearings fitted at the start of summer.

The windscreen was replaced this summer and it is heated as well; on frosty mornings that’s a feature you quickly learn to appreciate.

The car is in daily use. Air conditioning, Webasto, engine, gearbox, clutch and four-wheel drive all work as they should.

For summer, 19” alloy wheels with summer tyres, and for winter 16” alloy wheels with Nokian winter tyres are included; those are currently fitted as it’s been frosty in the mornings already.
