For sale to the highest bidder as a repair project Mercedes! The car came to us in part-exchange, but the next day the engine warning light came on and it started running a little roughly. This was inspected at a workshop, where something was found on top of the piston of cylinder 4 (a valve or similar). The workshop's assessment was that a replacement engine is the most sensible solution at this stage. Diagnosis was done with a borescope. There is also a scratch on the surface of cylinder 4; it is unknown whether it is deep or serious.

Defects and other observations

During the test drive we made the following observations:

  • Before the warning light came on I managed to complete a test drive; the car felt usable until the engine warning light illuminated, which is why the car is now sold for repair.

  • Something was found on top of the piston in cylinder 4 (a valve or similar). The workshop's assessment was that a replacement engine is the most sensible solution. Diagnosis was done with a borescope. There is also a scratch on the surface of cylinder 4; it is unknown whether it is deep or serious. (The last picture shows a spark plug from that cylinder.)

  • Well maintained; timing chain kit renewed at 210,000 km in Dec 2025.

  • Air conditioning works, tyres in good condition, brakes did not vibrate.

  • Suspension felt firm; also MOT tested in June 2026.

  • Left mirror indicator does not work.

  • Coolant appears clear.

  • The car is recommended to be collected by trailer or tow truck. Of course you may drive it away at your own risk :D
