Well-kept Ford Mondeo, but it has unexpectedly broken down.

The timing kit and an oil service were recently carried out. The car was then driven from Tampere to Kajaani, where the engine suddenly started making an unusual noise.


Garage diagnosis:

An extra noise is heard when revs are lowered; depressing the clutch does not change the noise.

The noise appears to come from the engine oil sump. The engine oil was drained into a container and appeared to be shimmering / slightly metallic in colour.

The oil sump was removed: the big end on cylinder 1 is loose and there was bearing debris in the oil pump suction strainer -> bearing damage in the engine -> requires an engine replacement or a rebuild.

Therefore the car is not driveable. It is located at a garage in Kajaani; collection must be arranged separately.
