The customer requested an on-site inspection. On a quick diagnosis the engine sounds odd and weak when cranking. The engine does not start. An OBD tester reports a fault with the camshaft position sensor; the signal is out of range. Replacing the camshaft sensor did not affect the engine's behaviour. A compression test showed 0.0–4.2 bar per cylinder.

In summary the timing assembly has possibly skipped or stretched. The timing is chain-driven. Petrol has been detected in the engine oil, the oil level is within normal limits. It is highly likely that the mechanical fuel pump has leaked into the engine oil. A more precise fault diagnosis requires at minimum removal of the cylinder head, which will also allow cost estimation.
