Well, here’s an interesting 'Dillen Aspen' up for sale! With this car you certainly won’t attract much attention and you’ll blend in with Teslas and Polestars effortlessly — perfect for comparing electricity savings over coffee at petrol stations. In reality, though, you won’t be able to drive a metre in peace; petrol stations will feel like queue-ticket counters for inquisitive visitors, the phone will ring constantly and you’ll quickly become the biggest local character as the owner. The engine note practically demands a can of beer in your hand, and you may not want to sit in the driver’s seat when it’s moving. When imported to Finland in 1980 it once outshone diplomatic plates, but in its current guise I’d expect serious trouble if you tried to drive it through an embassy gate or into the Parliament car park on a Friday night. Anyway, joking aside.

Now to the more serious details — the mechanics. The most important feature of this car is the paperwork. It previously had a 360 cid (≈5.9 L) belt-driven supercharger setup, which is recorded in the inspection documents including bonnet modifications, etc. Currently it has a basic 318+904 setup so the car is roadworthy again. The removed belt-drive hardware currently powers another open-top Aspen. A few years ago the 318 engine received a new camshaft, lifters, timing assembly, fuel pump and distributor. Engine oil and oil filter have just been changed and the spark plugs, ignition leads and ignition coil with resistor have been renewed.

Inspection passed successfully on 10 April 2026 with a full repair order (three items). Only one item remains uncompleted — a crack in the windscreen. The vehicle is permitted on the road until 10 April 2028.

Extensive work was carried out on the Aspen before inspection and it likely won’t need welding. Replacements include front brake discs, front brake pads with fitting kits, brake calipers, all brake hoses, front wheel bearings, all shock absorbers, rear brake drums, rear brake shoes with all hardware, handbrake cables, rear brake pipes, brake fluid and the heater matrix. The audio system has been rebuilt with new 6x9 speakers, a radio antenna and a modern Bluetooth player with remote control. This car is well known among Kanta-Häme car enthusiasts and has burned rubber on many occasions (only on closed courses in controlled conditions), so the rear tyres have just been replaced. The old tyre treads have conveniently been reused as sound insulation in the rear wheel arches.

The exterior has been left deliberately rough. No weekly washes or monthly waxing required — you can spend that time reading and broadening your mind (example only). The photos should show the condition well; if in doubt, feel free to come and view. It actually drives like a practical car: relatively quiet inside, with power brakes, power steering and seat belts front and rear.

Some faults/features: The rear tyres slightly rub the arches on potholes and rough gravel sections. The ammeter is inactive and the temperature gauge is intermittent (usually revived by wiggling the sensor lead). The instrument cluster shows the Brake light — it isn’t relevant to the car’s top speed. Reverse gear is not usable at the moment because the gear linkage was welded/reassembled hastily in the rain at midnight.
