10 kW diesel parking heater for engine coolant, Vantaa

Operating principle:

The heater's main engine drives the fuel pump, combustion air blower and the atomiser. The fuel pump sends suctioned fuel to the atomiser via a fuel line. The atomiser mixes the fuel with air drawn by the blower and sprays it into the main combustion chamber by centrifugal force. A hot glow plug ignites the mixture; it burns completely and then returns to the rear combustion chamber. Heat transfers through the inner wall of the water jacket and the upper cooling fins into the medium in the water jacket — the coolant. After heating, the medium circulates through the whole pipework by the circulation pump (or by heat convection) to provide heating. Combustion gases from the heater are discharged through the exhaust pipe.

⚠️ Diesel heater Safety instructions

The diesel heater's combustion consumes oxygen and produces dangerous exhaust gases. Incorrect installation may lead to carbon monoxide poisoning or fire.

1. Exhaust gas routing (Main rule)

• Outside only: Exhaust gases must be routed entirely outside the building, tent or vehicle using a metal exhaust pipe.

• Sealing: Ensure the exhaust pipe connection to the heater body is sealed with the supplied clamp. Even a small leak into the interior can be fatal.

• CO alarm: Always install a quality carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in the space. It is inexpensive life insurance.

  
  

2. Exhaust temperature and insulation

The exhaust pipe becomes extremely hot during use.

• Max temperature: Exhaust gas temperature at the outlet can reach up to 250–450 °C depending on power. The metal pipe itself can become glowing hot.

• Penetrations: If the exhaust pipe passes through a wall or floor, use a non-combustible insulation (e.g. fire wool or a separate metal penetration sleeve). The pipe must not touch wood, plastic or other combustible materials directly.

• Clearance: Keep the exhaust pipe at least 10 cm away from any meltable or combustible materials along its entire length.

  
  

3. Combustion air and heated air

• Separate air intakes: Ensure the heater exhaust pipe is not near the unit's combustion air intake or the intake for the heated interior air. Otherwise the unit may draw its own exhaust gases back inside.

  
  

4. Fuel handling

• Place the fuel tank so that in case of a leak diesel cannot flow onto a hot exhaust pipe.
