10 kW diesel parking heater for engine coolant, Vantaa

Principle of the unit:

The heater's main engine drives the fuel pump, the combustion-supporting fan and the atomiser. The fuel pump sends the drawn fuel to the atomiser via a fuel pipe. The atomiser mixes the fuel with the air drawn in by the fan and sprays it into the main chamber by centrifugal force. A hot glow plug ignites the air–fuel mixture; it burns and then returns to the rear combustion chamber. Heat is transferred through the inner wall of the water jacket and the fins above it to the medium in the water jacket – the coolant. After heating, the medium circulates through the whole piping by means of a circulation pump (or by heat convection) to provide heating. The exhaust gases produced by the heater are expelled through the exhaust pipe.

⚠️ Diesel heater safety instructions

The diesel heater's combustion process consumes oxygen and produces dangerous exhaust gases. Incorrect installation can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning or fire.

1. Exhaust routing (Most important rule)

• Exhaust to outside only: Exhaust gases must be led completely outside the building, tent or vehicle using a metal exhaust pipe.

• Sealing: Ensure the exhaust pipe joint to the heater body is sealed with the supplied clamp. Even a small leak into the interior can be fatal.

• CO alarm: Always install a quality carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in the space. It is cheap life insurance.

  
  

2. Exhaust temperature and insulation

The exhaust pipe reaches very high temperatures in use.

• Max temperature: Diesel heater exhaust temperature at the outlet can reach up to 250–450 °C depending on power. The metal pipe itself may glow hot.

• Penetrations: If the exhaust passes through a wall or floor, use a non-combustible insulating sleeve (e.g. fire wool or a separate metal penetration sleeve). The pipe must not touch wood, plastic or other combustible materials directly.

• Clearance: Keep the exhaust pipe at least 10 cm away from any meltable or flammable materials along its length.

  
  

3. Combustion air and heated air

• Separate air intakes: Ensure the heater exhaust is not near the unit's combustion air intake or the heated air intake. Otherwise the unit may draw its own exhaust back in.

  
  

4. Fuel handling

• Position the fuel tank so that in the event of a leak diesel cannot flow onto the hot exhaust pipe.
