10 kW diesel parking heater for engine coolant, Vantaa

Operating principle:

The heater's main engine drives the fuel pump, the combustion-supporting fan and the atomiser. The oil pump sends drawn fuel through a feed pipe to the atomiser. The atomiser mixes the air drawn by the fan with the diesel fuel and atomises it into the main combustion chamber by centrifugal force. A hot glow plug ignites the mixture, it burns completely and the combustion products then move to the rear combustion chamber. Heat transfers through the inner wall of the water jacket and the upper cooling fins into the medium in the jacket — the coolant. After heating, the medium circulates through the whole system by the circulation pump (or by convection) to provide heating. Exhaust gases from combustion are expelled through the exhaust pipe.

⚠️ Diesel heater safety instructions

The diesel heater's combustion process consumes oxygen and produces hazardous exhaust gases. Incorrect installation can lead to carbon monoxide poisoning or fire.

1. Exhaust routing (Main rule)

• Exhaust outside only: Exhaust gases must be routed entirely outside the building, tent or vehicle using a metal exhaust pipe.

• Sealing: Ensure the exhaust pipe connection to the heater body is sealed with the supplied clamp. Even a small leak into the interior can be fatal.

• Carbon monoxide alarm: Always install a good-quality carbon monoxide (CO) alarm in the space. It is cheap life insurance.

  
  

2. Exhaust temperature and insulation

The exhaust pipe reaches very high temperatures during use.

• Max temperature: Diesel-heater exhaust gases at the outlet can reach up to 250–450 °C depending on power. The metal pipe itself may glow hot.

• Penetrations: If the exhaust pipe passes through a wall or floor, use a non-combustible penetration sleeve (e.g. fire wool or a separate metal collar). The pipe must not contact wood, plastic or other combustible materials directly.

• Clearance: Keep the exhaust pipe at least 10 cm away from any meltable or flammable materials along its entire length.

  
  

3. Combustion air and heated air

• Separate air inlets: Ensure the heater's exhaust pipe is not near the unit's combustion air intake or the heated air inlet. Otherwise the unit may draw its own exhaust back in.

  
  

4. Fuel handling

• Position the fuel tank so that, in the event of a leak, diesel cannot flow onto the hot exhaust pipe.
