The Municipality of Karijoki is seeking a new development-minded owner for the former Myrkyn village school through a two-stage auction process.

The splendid site of about 7,200 m², made up of two school buildings and outbuildings, is located in the lively village of Myrkky in Karijoki. Myrkyn school was built in the late 19th century and the small school on the same grounds dates from the 1920s. Both buildings are heated with wood chips. The grounds also include a versatile outbuilding, a heating plant and a root cellar. The surrounding area has detached houses, a leisure centre with an outdoor swimming pool and ample recreational opportunities, for example riding facilities.

In recent years the school buildings have been used for, among other things, Karijoki municipality’s Myrkky branch library, adult education classes and various clubs.

The movable property shown in the photos belongs to the municipality and the property’s tenants and is generally not included in the sale.

Before making an offer, bidders are obliged to familiarise themselves with the property, documents and records. The buyer must note that no condition surveys have been carried out on the properties or their buildings. The municipality is not responsible for any defects, damages or faults that may appear in the buildings or on the property. The buildings and the whole property are sold as seen.

The buyer must take into account the age and condition of the properties, their technical age and the service life of technical equipment. The buyer may not later rely on these matters after the sale. The buyer has no right to a price reduction, compensation or other remedy or return. The buyer cannot later rely on any matter that could have been observed during the prior inspection.

In the first stage of the auction, the bidder submits a participation notice (an offer of any amount to this listing) and sends the municipality an operational plan stating the intended future use of the property.
Participants selected on the basis of the first stage will be invited separately to the closed second stage of the auction, where the purchase price will be determined.

A participation notice is made by placing an offer on this listing. The amount of the offer or its rank relative to other offers is not significant in the first stage of the auction.

The participation notice must be submitted in the huutokaupat.com service by Monday 9 March 2026 at 15:00.

Operational plan:

All those who have submitted a participation notice must present a free‑form plan for the future use of the property.

The plan does not need to be technical; a well‑argued vision is sufficient. Explain in your plan what you would use the school building for, what else you would do on the property and with what resources and timetable your plans could be implemented.

Second stage of the auction:

After the first stage ends, the municipality will review the operational plans submitted by those who made a participation notice. The competent municipal authority reserves the right to accept or reject the received operational plans.

The municipality will invite the buyer candidates it accepts to the closed second stage of the auction and will announce the date and access instructions on the auction site.

The second stage is intended to be held in March 2026. Credit checks will be carried out on those invited to the auction procedure.

In the second stage the property will be sold with no starting price, but the competent municipal authority reserves the right to accept or reject the highest offer.

The buyer is expected to inspect the property. Viewings on site can be arranged separately.
