Defects and other observations

Recent work:

  • Coolant began disappearing and eventually mixed with the engine oil. The cylinder head was replaced in 05/26, machined, pressure-tested and other essential parts replaced. The PCV filter was also replaced to prevent oil from being pushed into the intake pipe.


Identified faults:

  • The biggest fault is that it still consumes oil. Although repairs were carried out as recently as May, this fault was not present or detectable then. It has been investigated and confirmed that the fault is not play in the turbo, so oil is not being sprayed into the charge air. The engine blow-by test results were satisfactory in every cylinder and no external leaks have been detected. The next likely causes are the piston oil rings and/or valve stem seals; replacing these would require removing the engine and is estimated to take a couple of days.

  • The tailgate electric motor has deteriorated. The tailgate works manually by pushing it closed by hand, and it can be opened using the remote control or the tailgate button, so it works well enough in normal everyday use without repair.

  • The air conditioning leaks and does not retain refrigerant; the cause is unknown. It was not investigated further as we have little weather where it would be essential.

  • There is minor rust beneath the paint around the front door handles and at the upper corners of the windscreen. There should not be any significant rust elsewhere, such as on the body or sills. There are also a few small scratches in the paintwork.

  • One rear lower control arm has rust damage and must be repaired for the inspection; the vehicle failed for this reason on 27 October 2026. Driving rights are valid until the end of November.
