Workshop observations:

Initial information requiring a second opinion:

Strange noise from gearbox/drivetrain --> Rear differential is noisy and the Haldex coupling is leaking oil.

Replacing the differential is cheaper than repairing it.

Left rear seat belt does not work --> Buckle mechanism broken.

Left front wheel rim and bolts checked (wheel came off while driving) --> OK

Plastic part in boot?? – Missing part of front bumper fitted.

Exhaust is noisy – Exhaust incorrectly fitted and of poor quality; all joints badly

rusted!! Rear bumper melted from heat!!

Smells of petrol – Fuel tank breather hose broken.

Result of the fault diagnosis now carried out:

-Slight whining noise at the front, probably a wheel bearing. However, this is not certain and it could be something else. This should be checked first.

-No whining noise was heard at the rear, but as the exhaust is completely broken and making such a loud noise, it is difficult to say for certain.

-No leaks currently visible in the Haldex. Has it been cleaned?

-The left rear seat belt has been detached from the lower bolt and retracted inside. It may be possible to pull it back out by dismantling the backrest, allowing it to retract slightly and release the lock. One hour of work will establish whether it can be repaired. But why was it detached?

The buckle itself is intact. (Is there a misunderstanding between the buckle and retractor mechanism?)

-The plastic part in the boot is the cover for the detachable tow bar when the bar is removed.

-Everything from the catalytic converter backwards needs replacing. (The rear silencer has now been removed because it was hanging loose and could fall onto the road.)

-No smell of petrol detected now; no detached/broken hoses visible. BUT, without dismantling much, it cannot be confirmed whether, for example, the breather hose is broken.

-The power steering pump has expelled all its fluid. This may be the smell caused by burning oil.

Power assistance does not work and the system is full of metal filings = the steering rack will probably also need replacing; there is play on the left side, and the metal filings are another reason.

-Right rear brake shield is badly rusted and about to come away; rusted through.

-The car has been standing for long enough that, if it needs an MOT, it may require new brake discs again. They are so rusty that braking has not cleaned them immediately.

-Exhaust gases have at least melted the wiring harness for the rear parking sensors; the sensors may also be damaged. The parking sensor system constantly reports a fault.

The bumper is slightly melted too.

-The headlamp units are so cloudy that they must at least be polished before the MOT.

-The lower grille is missing from the front bumper --> everything has evidently hit the air-conditioning condenser, which looks so poor that it will probably leak as soon as it is touched, if it does not already.

-What missing part has been fitted there?

-The front of the car is higher than the rear. New springs/shock absorbers at the front. Nivomat shock absorbers at the rear; are they worn out, or are the wrong springs fitted at the front?
