A handsome four-wheel-drive S80 acquired in part exchange, with a smoothly operating automatic gearbox and a proper Volvo D5 185 hp engine.

Neat condition for its age, although there are some signs of use as expected.

Passed its inspection with no remarks in July, so almost a year of inspection remaining.

Working air conditioning, tow bar, 4x electric windows, heated seats, engine block heater, leather interior, driver's seat with memory, xenon headlights and Isofix.

Negatives: The front anti-roll-bar link knocks over bumps; only the tyres fitted underneath are included, and they are mediocre 19-inch tyres on smart rims; the service book is “missing” and the previous owner has promised to deliver it, but this cannot be guaranteed. According to the records, the timing belt was changed at 375,000 km. I checked the belt and it still looked quite good. The windscreen has many stone chips and a small crack right at the bottom, outside the field of vision. The power steering is stiff at idle; it works well with a little throttle. The screen-washer fluid reservoir leaks, and the car displays a headlight fault message which appeared after I fitted a Biltema xenon bulb; the lights nevertheless work normally. All of these issues have been taken into account in the price.

The lack of power assistance at idle has been traced to the power-steering pump. An OEM-quality used unit from a breaker costs around €100–150...

A brand-new interior blower motor has just been fitted!

Overall, however, it is a functional car; the four-wheel drive works very well and the engine pulls strongly.

The engine does not leak, consume oil or coolant, or smoke.
