Audi A6, 2016, Kouvola

Fault diagnosis:
19 August. Jussi: Fault codes read; there were many, mainly relating to missing messages. No fault codes in the engine system, DPF differential pressure 0.02–0.1 bar, ash mass 0. Drove approximately 50 km; it ran well, with no warnings or fault codes. It is difficult to determine the cause because the fault cannot be reproduced. There is occasionally a burning smell, but its source has not been identified; further investigation of a few hours is required.
24 August. Arrived by recovery vehicle. VIBRATES EXTREMELY when the accelerator pedal is even touched and barely starts. Smoke/fumes come from the engine bay. Previous entries and invoices checked; timing system replaced by TamCar Oy on 25 May 2026 at 202,898 km.
27 August. JH: Misfires on cylinder 2 and runs very poorly. A LARGE amount of oil smoke comes from the oil filler cap (acting as an exhaust). Oil filter removed; the filter is full of metal filings -> something besides the connecting-rod bearing has failed, as some of the filings are magnetic.
The engine squeals and knocks, so it would need to be opened extensively to determine what has failed. It may also be possible to identify the cause and mechanism of the damage.
4 September. JH: Oil sump opened and investigation started to determine what has happened and why.
There was probably already some kind of bearing fault, because on 25 March 2026: timing chain listened to from above and below; another knocking noise could also be heard; possible dual-mass flywheel?
Repairs carried out by TAMCAR in the meantime: side fasteners for the undertray missing > panels remain in place; engine sides damp with oil; brakes judder; threads on a couple of gearbox rear-mount bolts damaged; one bolt missing from the turbo lower support, support bent > replacement bolt fitted; wiring harnesses routed untidily; fasteners missing; cylinder 6 injector faulty > replaced > threads damaged -> thread insert fitted in the head; injector bolt/guide passage seal sweating/slightly wet; plastic flap at the left jacking point missing.

4 September. Hovi:
- Oil sump removed. The second cylinder (third journal from the front) has no connecting-rod bearing left at all, with approximately 1 cm of play.
- The connecting rod and crankshaft are at least beyond repair; a complete engine rebuild or replacement engine is required.
- The front connecting-rod bearing journal was also removed; this bearing is still in good condition, so lubrication was sufficient at least up to this point. The oil pickup screen is also surprisingly clean considering that the sump was full of bearing fragments.

No technical condition inspection has been carried out by us, and the operation of all equipment has not been tested. The vehicle may have hidden defects that were not detected during the test drive and inspection. The vehicle may be test-driven and inspected more closely on site.
