“Mrs Margaret’s Sunday car”

In 1991 I brought this car from misty England. It wasn’t just any car – it was a Jaguar.

Since then, life has been rather civilised. On Sundays, a neat suit has been put on, the hat set just right, lipstick applied just enough, and the car has been driven calmly to the village wine bar. Haste has never been part of this car’s character. You do not rush in a Jaguar; you arrive in a Jaguar.

Now the lady’s driving licence has retired, so it is time to find the car a new caretaker.

Now, the facts in all seriousness:

* Inspected in May – just drive it.

* Museum vehicle, next inspection 2030

* The body is really tidy for its age; there is a small spot of rust on the edge of the rear door on the driver’s side.

* The interior is very tidy

* Air conditioning does not work

* The wiper has a British sense of humour – it does not always return to its home position, but stays where it is switched off. Central locking does not work

* Central locking does not work

* The boot does not always release from the button; sometimes it needs to be pressed several times

* It does not always recognise P when starting; sometimes the gear lever needs to be touched.

Recently serviced

The Jaguar is not perfect, nor should it be. It is an old English gentleman with a few quirks, but in return it offers a dignity that new cars no longer have.
