This reliable Honda is now being sold to make way for a newer Accord! It has served well as a daily driver, and has just been driven from Helsinki to Kirkenes in Norway and back without any issues. It has clocked up some miles, but the mechanics on these are durable, and both the engine and transmission work very well. There are, however, signs of wear on the body.


The car has been repaired:

  • 1/25 starter motor replaced

  • 8/25 major front-end suspension work: ball joints, anti-roll bar link, bushing, etc.

  • 8/26 during service it was noted that the right rear brake pad was nearly worn out; both rear pads replaced, calipers serviced and freed up. Discs are in good condition.


The car has therefore been serviced quite recently. It was used for inspection in August and failed, see defect list. There is still a little over a month of driving time left.


The air conditioning works very well, the audio system is in good condition, and it comes with good-quality Nokian summer tyres, used for just over two seasons. For winter, there are also good-quality Nokian studded tyres, used for two seasons. The windscreen is worn, but there are no stone chips or cracks. It still pulls well and runs smoothly.


Within the past year, the engine warning light has come on twice, but it has gone out by itself after the car was switched off and restarted. It then showed a fault code for the throttle pedal position sensor. It does not affect driving in any way; the last time the warning light came on and went off was a month ago, and it has not appeared since.


Fix this for inspection and you will have a good winter daily driver! It has been good in winter too: warm and always starts well, and the battery is in good condition.

Defects and other observations

Inspection defect list (to be fixed by 12 Oct):

  • Lambda values out of spec & exhaust leak: the flex pipe and the joint between the rear muffler and pipe are leaking; according to the inspector, fixing these will most likely be enough for emissions to pass. The car was also taken to Tiittanen's workshop, where the mechanic estimated that in addition to replacing the flex section, the rear section of the exhaust should be replaced as well (there is an old weld at the joint, and a new weld would apparently not last long). I can't say whether welding it will get it through inspection, as I don't know how to do that kind of bodge work.

  • One rear bushing needs replacing

  • Headlight beam pattern unclear: no wonder when looking at the lamps. Polishing may solve it.

  • Battery mounting already repaired!

Quite a lot of rust on the wheel arches. Otherwise the rust situation was good according to the inspector; the rear subframe was not rotten and daylight did not shine through the sills. Rust is often what eats these before the mechanics fail, but this particular car is not badly rotten anywhere except the arches.


The undertray at the front is hanging a bit, mounting tabs have come loose


At the latest service, the brake fluid was supposed to be changed, but according to the workshop: "brake fluid bleed nipples seized and rounded off, brake fluid could not be changed"


At motorway speeds there is a slight vibration in the steering wheel; wheel alignment could be adjusted
