Kawasaki Vulcan 750 | 1987 | 65,000 km | Older gem in need of care, Salo

This old Vulcan needs a little work, but the starting point is pretty good.

If you look at the bike's age, it's in fairly good condition. It comes with a screen, leather side bags and a sissy bar. The exhaust tips have been modified and the exhaust system opened up. The result is quite a rumble, so hopefully there is still room for some noise in this world.

The odometer shows just over 65,000 km. Of course, we do not know whether it has already gone around once more.

It has been serviced at some point, but all we got from the previous owner's immortal line was 'well maintained'. The stator was replaced last summer and that is certain, because we did it ourselves.

The tyres have plenty of tread left. The rear tyre was made in 2017 and the front one in 2019.

The indicators probably have a contact fault/corrosion. Our recollection is that they worked before, but now they no longer do.

The carburettor is leaking fuel from the bottom. Someone has tried to patch it with some sealant at some point. When the engine got hot, it dripped a few drops of oil underneath, but it did not drip any more during a longer standstill. So the ground was dry before starting. The battery needed a boost to get it running.

It started surprisingly well, considering it has been waiting for a new partner for quite a few months already. Based on the short test ride, it is fine, the gears work (note the reverse pattern!) and the brakes slow it down.

As the headline said, this needs some TLC!

Before you get excited and start bidding, remember that this needs servicing, repairs and tidying up. A Kawasaki that is almost 40 years old may also have other hidden faults that have not been noticed. A little wear and tear comes with that age, as every 40+ year old knows.
