Buick Riviera, 1963, Hyvinkää

For sale: a superb, well-presented and very reliable 1963 Riviera with genuine equipment and that biggest engine!

The car has been driven long distances this summer too without any problems (e.g. a recent Hyvinkää–Loimaa–Hyvinkää trip), so this is a ready-to-drive classic you can enjoy right away.

Mechanicals and upgrades made:

• Engine & transmission: Original 425 Wildcat (Nailhead V8) and Dynaflow automatic.

• Runs nicely, accelerates well and the gearbox shifts as it should.

• Spark plugs recently replaced.

• Cooling: Efficient new aluminium radiator (keeps temperatures under control in summer heat).

• Tyres & wheels: Stylish whitewall tyres fitted this spring with nice chrome wheels. At the same time, all wheel bolts were replaced as a precaution.

• Electrics: New high-quality yellow Optima battery, with a main battery disconnect switch fitted on the negative side for added safety. The wiper switch has also been replaced.

• Interior: Completely retrimmed neatly and tastefully (not fully original pattern, but a very tidy look); a few buttons are missing.

• Note (honest little classic-car quirks):

• The rear paintwork is poor and will need attention at some point if you want show condition. The body has honest patina, but it works just fine as it is too.

• The lower edge of the rear window has old filler cracked (see picture). The metal underneath is completely solid and healthy, so the car does not need welding! This has been taken into account in the price.

• A bit of work needed on the windows: the rear window on the driver’s side does not work, and the small vent window on the passenger side (crank operated) is stuck, likely due to stripped gears. All other windows work normally.

 Edelbrock carburettor 1405 7234

 MSD distributor

 MSD 8202 Blaster 2 ignition coil

 New, larger aluminium radiator (3-row)

 Gates 16 psi safety cap on radiator

 Larger fan and custom-made aluminium fan shroud

 New water pump

 Gates 33036 thermostat 160F / 71 C

 Panhard rod welded

 U-joints replaced

 New front wheel bearings

 All bulbs checked / replaced

 New Forever Sharp steering wheel with removable rim.

 New horn units

 Retro radio and new electric antenna, enclosed speakers in the front

And that’s about it — get in, smile, and let the nailhead twist as it’s known to.
