Mercedes-Benz ML, 1999, Lappajärvi

W163 ML 320 with a petrol engine. Under the bonnet it runs as a smooth six-cylinder.

The German beauty is straight from 1999.

The odometer shows just over 332,700 km. It is used daily, so the figure is increasing.

The gearbox is an easy automatic. In addition to P, R, N and D there are four manual gears.

Extras include:

working sunroof, air conditioning, heated seats, engine heater, central locking, electrically adjustable mirrors, electrically adjustable seats and a very handsome stereo.

Inspection attempted on 12 May 2026.

Failed with 7 items (1 fault repaired).

Unfortunately I don't have time to fix them.

Inspection office findings;

-Low handbrake braking force

-Broken spring at the rear right

-Track rod end, front right (outer)

-Longitudinal chassis beam corroded at rear left and right

-Rear brake hose supports detached

-Upper control arm ball joint play at front left

-Left rocker panel corroded

-Brake pipe corrosion is !REPAIRED!

Re-inspection must be carried out by 15 June 2026.

Fitted within the last year:

315,020 km Upper control arms front, exhaust tail section, engine oil, engine oil filter

317,025 km gearbox filter, connector and transmission oils

331,535 km engine oil and engine oil filter

A small service book is available; it was kept for about a year. The service entries are listed above.

There appears to be a sensor fault as the engine oil warning occasionally lights and the display shows -2L. The driver's window control also does not work; this was not examined further.

Switches for auxiliary lights have been added next to the indicator stalk, with the wiring routed beside the battery. (NOTE: The wire is not currently connected to the battery)

This is not the cheapest car to run.

Average consumption is approximately 10–15 l/100 km depending on the driver's right foot.

Be cautious with the throttle at low speed as there is a small 'kick' in the pedal. I do not see this as a defect, more a matter of getting used to it.

There is only one key. The tyres currently on the car are the only ones included.
