A ready-to-use freezing toilet requires no water connection, drain or constructed ventilation. You only need a mains socket. Its portability and plug & play installation make it an ideal choice for summer cottages and any place without sewerage. The oval 21-litre inner bucket fits a biodegradable bag that can be removed hygienically for composting.

Ekohytte Frost has been designed with energy economy in mind. Optimised compressor technology and extra-thick insulation make it extremely economical. Ekohytte Frost consumes only 0.36 kWh per day — roughly half the consumption of comparable competitors. The thick base insulation and high adjustable feet mean the unit must be installed in a heated space.

Before use

• After removing the product from its packaging, check for any damage. Contact the seller if you notice any damage.

• Keep the unit upright for at least 30 minutes. Any oil that may have flowed into the cooling circuit during transport will then flow back into the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet stands firmly and level.

• The seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything non-compostable in it (e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts).

Placement
The toilet must be placed indoors in a warm space. It can be used on a heated floor thanks to its thick base insulation and high feet. Heat will increase the unit's electricity consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. The optimal room temperature is +10–+22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Place the toilet on a level surface and secure it using the adjustable feet.

Use

• Press the base of the bio-bag into the bucket and fold the bag edges over the rim so the bucket can be dropped into the seat.

• Check that the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug into the mains and switch the toilet on — the green indicator will light.

• Wait about one hour before first use.

Emptying

• Change the bio-bag when the bucket is about two-thirds full.

• Tuck the bag edge into the bucket and lift the bucket out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a household or garden compost bin, adding plenty of dry material before emptying.

• Pierce the surface of the bag (for example with a fork) and cover with the dry material layer.

• Check for ice on the bucket rim. Defrost and dry the walls if necessary.

• Replace with a new bag.

Use of drying agents
Drying agents are not required for a freezing toilet. They are only needed for post-composting.

Cleaning
Clean Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. Any household cleaners are suitable. The bucket can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry before refitting. Do not use water on the rear cooling housing; vacuum it once a year.

Longer periods of non-use

• Unplug the unit

• Empty, clean and dry the bucket and the cold chamber

• Leave the lid open

• The unit can be stored in an unheated space
