1963 Volvo Amazon Estate
Fully restored Swedish classic
Beautifully restored and exceptionally charming 1963 Volvo Amazon Estate, with an interesting history spanning the United States and Finland. The car has been restored with particular attention to originality and period-correct details.
The car was “born” on 29 May 1963 and was originally exported to the United States. In 1967, a Finnish family bought the car in San Francisco. The family returned to Finland in 1970 and brought the Volvo with them. The car was used in Finland until 1982.
The restoration was carried out over several years. Initially, the rusted front inner wings were replaced with repair panels sourced from another Amazon, and the front floor was repaired.
Where possible, new metal panels were fitted in line with the original spot-weld locations, while other weld seams were carefully finished with tin. Once all welding work was complete, the entire car was soda blasted.
The body was then treated with epoxy primer, after which the car was professionally painted externally.
Particular attention was paid to ensuring that replacement parts were correct for the 1963 model year. The result is a car that retains the original character and appearance of an early Amazon while benefiting from a thorough restoration.
The car returned to the road in 2014 after being off the road for approximately 22 years. It was inspected and approved for the historic vehicle register in 2015.
