Opel Manta, 1977, Lappeenranta

Manta for sale as the seller is reducing the number of hobby vehicles. Vehicle history: the car stood for around 20 years before being returned to road use in 2021. According to Traficom records, its previous inspection was in 1999. I have owned the car since May 2022. During this period, it stood for a few more years before being inspected again this August. The inspection is valid for a long period, with the next inspection due in August 2028. The previous builder carried out extensive welding (and the repairs are not pretty) and applied a new yellow paint finish. This paint has started to flake off in places. The car has an Opel 2.0 S engine with tubular exhaust headers and a Weber carburettor. It originally had a 1.9-litre engine, but the engine was changed and approved at an inspection at some point in its history.

Features and details:

-One headlamp is from the wrong model year and sits further in than the other

-In places, the new paint has started to flake, revealing an older shade of yellow underneath (visible, for example, around the door frames and the “paid lady’s stairs”)

-The door sill trims were made by the previous builder

-The tyres still have a legal tread depth, but cracks are beginning to appear in the grooves

-One tyre does not hold air very well (probably a faulty valve)

-Rear bumper cracked (shown in the picture)

-Poorly made door cards

-Some plastic interior parts are missing

-Exact mileage unknown

-The carburettor needs tuning. The car does not pull as it should

-The gear lever is rather loose

Work carried out this year:

-Front brake callipers replaced

-Rear brake drums replaced

-Exhaust system made

-Rocker cover gasket replaced

-Carburettor and exhaust manifold gaskets replaced

-Leaking exhaust manifold repaired

-Choke cable replaced

-Bonnet release cable replaced

-Fuel filter replaced

-Oil filter and oil changed

-Radiator replaced

-Upper rear shock absorber mounting repaired

-Some welding repairs carried out

-New battery; battery moved from the boot back to its original location

Not the best, but not the worst, basis for further development. The car is roadworthy, although there are still some areas requiring attention. It has been driven around 600 km since the August inspection. Faults have been repaired as they have arisen. The car drives reasonably well overall, but the main issue is the previously mentioned need to tune the carburettor. Its overall appearance is nevertheless quite presentable. You do not see many of these on the road any more.
