Under the bonnet is, of course, the legendary OM646, one of Mercedes-Benz’s finest diesel engines. It is a four-cylinder inline engine with a cast-iron block and a timing chain that is genuinely built to last—not one of today’s bicycle chains. 😆


The car has already covered almost half a million kilometres, but considering the mileage, the body is surprisingly tidy. The biggest surprise, however, was the mechanical condition and gearbox! If you covered the odometer and tested the gearbox, you would never believe the car had travelled this far. The gearbox felt very smooth, and the engine also runs well and evenly.


The main observations were a heat shield on the exhaust, which apparently rattles slightly, and the power steering, which makes a faint whining noise when the steering wheel is turned fully to either side.


A dependable Mercedes-Benz for its next owner, with over six months’ MOT remaining! It would make an excellent winter car, but why not keep it for longer? The car has already covered half a million kilometres, so there’s no reason it couldn’t do another half a million, provided it is well looked after! 😎
