BMW 325iX Touring, 1989, Helsinki

A rare opportunity. BMW 325iX Touring for sale from a car enthusiast’s collection.

This is an exceptionally rare BMW from the E30 body range. A BMW 325iX with this equipment is very rarely available. Notably, the car’s original purchase price was higher than that of an M3 from the same year.

The car passed its inspection last year. It has been driven only approx. 230,000 km, which is very little for its age. The car is in original condition, so there are some early areas of rust here and there that require repair. Mechanically in excellent condition. Runs like clockwork, the gearbox shifts well and the other mechanical systems are in order. The only repair needed is to the front driveshaft: the rubber boot has been split for some time, causing the outer joint to crunch (a used replacement part is included with the car).

The interior has beige sport leather seats. There are some points to note. The outer bolsters of the driver’s seat require refurbishment. The fabric section of the headliner will probably need to be glued back onto the backing board. It sags in places, although the fabric itself is otherwise intact.

The car has air conditioning, which will probably require regassing. It has been stationary and unused for several years. The rear brakes were repaired for the inspection, including the brake pipes and hoses. Please note that the car originally had ventilated rear discs, found only on the Touring iX model when equipped with air conditioning. They are extremely rare and unavailable anywhere. New BMW ventilated rear discs are included in the boot. Four years ago, we moved house, during which the rear callipers and their mounting brackets went missing. They may be on the trailer where we have a complete, loose 325iX drivetrain (186,000 km). This includes the engine, gearbox, transfer case, front and rear differentials, and driveshafts.

This complete drivetrain is included in the sale. There is also another engine in parts, previously fitted with a Mosselman turbo kit. It is not certain that all parts are present. This is included in the sale as well.

The car has other “rarities”. It was specially ordered without a sunroof. We have never seen another 325i without one. Shadowline trim all around. It sits on iX “bottle-top” wheels. For summer, there is an exceptionally rare set of 15-inch “cross-spoke” wheels, plus another set of 14-inch cross-spoke wheels.

Bidders are strongly encouraged to visit in person and inspect what is being offered. This is an old vehicle in original condition. There is work to do if you want to make it excellent, but it is fully usable as it stands. Many valuable extra parts are included. In our opinion, this is a perfect restoration project for a true enthusiast, and another one will not come along soon.
