Mercedes-Benz GLK, 2013, Nurmijärvi

Facelift GLK, an incredibly comfortable car on the motorway, yet nimble enough for tight parking spaces in the city centre.

Used by me for approx. 125,000 km, and it has never left me stranded or stuck in snow. It has been driven in difficult conditions without worrying whether it would keep moving.

• Preventive repairs have been carried out at considerable expense. In August 2024, a reconditioned “new” turbocharger, boost pipes and related parts were fitted.

• New intake manifold, a known weak point on these models.

• Control arms, brake pads, propeller-shaft centre bearing, front drive shafts, the drive-shaft support bearing known as a typical fault, water pump with belt kit, etc. Almost half the asking price has gone on servicing and new parts alone.

• ILS, genuinely excellent for a car of this age, with superb standard lights for dark autumn conditions.

• Two sets of wheels and two sets of tyres.

• Black wheels with friction tyres, approx. 6–7 mm tread. I have even driven these in summer when feeling too lazy to change tyres.

• Summer tyres have 3–6 mm tread; one pair is slightly more worn.

• Engine block heater and detachable tow bar!

• My car situation changed with a company car, and I cannot bring myself to leave the Mercedes standing. Its use value would be greater than its sale value. No need for a part exchange.

• In my opinion, an exceptionally tidy vehicle for one with over 300,000 km, but it is not new.

• With diesel currently being inexpensive, it is relatively economical. Average consumption has been around 5.9 l/100 km in mixed driving, sometimes towing a trailer. At best, a tank has covered 950 km, so there is no need to keep refuelling constantly.
