This PV is one of the first Suzuki Solifer PVs, from the first production year, 1981. It was bought new for a household in Ypäjä and, according to recollections, was used until 1985 before being stored in a barn. In summer 2026, the house and barn were sold and the moped found a new home with a family acquaintance. A 1986 Fennia insurance plate was still fitted (included), so the moped was presumably ridden until 1986.
The family acquaintance had no personal PV experience or expertise, but got the moped running and working with the choke. They had sourced wheels with tyres from another PV, registered and inspected the moped on 27 August 2026, when the odometer read 8,028 km. A few new aftermarket parts were also fitted for the inspection. The gearbox oil was changed twice. They had also painted, among other things, the rear swingarm, footrest frame and magneto cover. The seat cover and mud flap had been replaced. The chain guard also appears new, or at least flawless. I do not know of every screw that has been undone on this PV from that period.
When I heard about the moped on 16 September, as a former PV youngster I had to acquire this Holy Grail. The 1981 model has a unique, intact Aprilia rear light. The knobbed tyres fitted for inspection were replaced with the original wheels and tyres, in place of the deteriorated IRC Sports original-fitment tyres. The front still has the original-fitment, made-in-Japan inner tube, and the rear an 1980s made-in-Italy inner tube. The bearings also appeared original and are still good; the brake shoes are still OK and original, made in Japan. The aftermarket parts fitted for inspection were removed and the saved original parts refitted. The moped has new chain and standard 13/35 gearing; previously it had 14/30.
The frame number and engine serial number are not expected to match exactly, but on this early example they differ by only a couple of consecutive numbers. The cylinder and cylinder head have not been opened since the 1980s, if ever since leaving the factory, and appear completely standard. The moped began working after the fuel system was serviced, but the exhaust had become badly blocked, at the latest due to riding with the choke on after registration. Water that had condensed in the rear corner of the silencer during 40 years in the barn had also rusted several holes through it, causing exhaust leaks. These two issues were repaired at the same time by burning out the carbon deposits and patching the rust holes. The welded area is now protected with heat-resistant lacquer. The moped’s patinated appearance was not altered by painting the entire exhaust.
In my opinion, this Holy Grail deserves historic-vehicle registration, which is possible either with its patina or after restoration. Historic registration with the patina would, in my view, require more than washing: returning the rear swingarm and brake-shield support bar to the frame colour, and replacing the tyres with IRC Sports or Nokian Finnspeed tyres. It always starts on the first or second kick, has the original steering lock, and the key is present and works. Current odometer reading 8,069 km; it may increase slightly.
Engine: 50 cm³, petrol, 1.1 kW

One exhaust bolt is broken off in the cylinder. The exhaust joint is reasonably secure as it is.
The reserve-tank connection on the fuel tap is broken; the reserve fuel hose has been plugged and taken out of use.
This is not a new moped straight from the factory, but largely bears the marks of use from 1981–1985, refurbished to be roadworthy and pass inspection.
