Mercedes-Benz SL 500, 1992, Kitee

Now up for auction: an SL 500 PROJECT, so with some work this could be restored for museum registration or be a great base for a build

In other words, a very solid-bodied car for someone who does not want to spend time with a welding machine

The car was brought from the USA and has been standing for a few years. It was brought back into shape enough to pass inspection; next inspection is in September 2027

The engine runs very nicely and pulls well, and the gearbox shifts as it should

The paintwork is decent; a bit of polish and it will be good, except the hardtop has paint bubbling, as pictured. The soft top is apparently poor, so a new one comes with the car. The hardtop has not been lifted off as the previous owner had already acquired a new soft top. A new sound insulation pad for the underside of the bonnet is also included

There are various minor issues in the interior as can be seen in the photos, the radio does not work, etc.

There is still some work to be done if you want to refine it; the windscreen has a crack in the middle at the bottom running straight upwards, the wiper stops wherever it feels like when switched off but does work,

the ABS/ASD light comes on intermittently, usually when turning sharply right, and the seat belt light stays on

the odometer has stuck at 99,000 miles, speedometer works

So there are already some notes on the condition so there will be no later complaints: this is being offered as a project, not a flawless example

So bid away and there will be something to tinker with :)
