Here’s a Sorento for handy DIYers or perhaps a mechanic, representing the last strong vintage!

• The body is in very good condition considering the age and mileage, with hardly any rust visible on the outer panels. With a thorough wash and polishing, it could look really great. The interior has the usual wear of a used car, but cleaning will sort that out; there is minor wear on the edge of the driver’s seat, otherwise the interior is intact.

  
  

• Features include: automatic climate control, cruise control, tow bar, 4x electric windows, remote central locking, engine heater + interior socket, ABS, airbag, etc. Everything seems to work, and it also has a Webasto heater, although it may be timer-controlled as we couldn’t find the control unit.

• Fitted with decent Hankook Dynapro tyres with over 5 mm tread all round, and for winter there are Hankook studded tyres with over 7.5 mm tread all round; the studs are stored separately, and they are also on alloy wheels.

• The car has an excellent service history, with oils in the engine, gearbox and other drivetrain components changed regularly. The service book has been photographed, and there is also a large stack of service receipts. MOT passed on 11.08.2026 with no remarks.

• The gearbox and four-wheel drive work, there are no unusual noises and the gears change smoothly. Four-wheel drive and drive mode selection work as they should.

• The car’s history is known to us over a long period; the body or chassis has not needed welding or other rust repairs, so it should remain in tough shape for a long time yet!

• And then the reason this is being sold at auction: there is an unusual noise coming from the engine. We did not investigate further when it was taken in part exchange in this condition. After some running and tapping around, the noise seems to come from the timing end. The engine runs on all cylinders and smoothly, but the noise is rather unpleasant. Fluids and oil are at the correct level and clean, warning lights are not on, and it can be started and driven, even onto a trailer, but we do not recommend driving it any further to avoid additional damage. So this may be solved with a timing chain repair, or maybe not — be bold and find out?!?!
