The odometer already shows a respectable 431,948 km, so the car has proven its durability and completed its well-earned run-in period. It drives well, and there is still a hefty little over 8 months left on the inspection!

This is a former pride and joy of an enthusiast, so there have probably been more services than the records can tell – or at least when it was absolutely necessary. A steel dog guard is already fitted in the boot, making this the perfect machine for a hunter, dog owner or anyone else who appreciates space and ground clearance.

• Model: Volvo XC70 2.4 D5 AWD (136 kW / 185 hp)

• Appearance: Clean silver metallic paint. The bumpers and plastic trims are, for their age, surprisingly black and crisp, not faded to grey.

• Wheels: Attractive 18" two-tone alloy wheels as pictured, with "all-year" studless winter tyres. These give the car a solid stance!

• Comfort & safety: Bi-Xenons, cruise control, rain sensor, rear parking sensors, RTI navigation and Volvo’s legendary safety systems (SIPS, WHIPS). A sunroof may also be fitted (check the equipment list, but the roof rails are certainly handsome).

Honest condition report & "mods":

• Mechanics & driving: It drives smoothly – goes very well and there are no unwanted knocks. At idle there is a slight gentlemanly vibration (possibly the engine mounts would benefit from an update, or perhaps it is simply showing signs of life).

• Breathing improved: The DPF has been emptied and the EGR removed and professionally programmed out (there is a plate in the EGR). So it breathes as freely as possible!

• Cooling & heating: The Webasto is currently on strike. The air conditioning needs a refill or a little attention, so on hot days we drive the traditional way with the windows open and an elbow on the door frame.
