Ford Fairlane 500, 1962, Ylöjärvi

For sale: Ford Fairlane 500 1962 sports coupe.

Car stripped to bare metal, welded, epoxy primer sprayed and painted in summer 2025. Painted by the owner; good running condition but there are colour inconsistencies. Not show-quality.

Engine: 302 (approx. 4.9 L) + AOD gearbox.

Large radiator; no overheating issues.

The car has many new parts. Note: all of these were purchased new.

- Holley Sniper EFI 2 with Hyperspark, Holley distributor and a 12.7 cm (5") display.

Holley fuel pump, pressure regulator and new tank. Fuel line new.

- AOD gearbox recently serviced, more like rebuilt. All internals replaced, including AOD super servo. Torque converter serviced and modified by Haaks with TH-Matic.

- TrickFlow wedge aluminium heads, TrickFlow roller rockers, Howard cam + lifters and new timing set. Heavy-duty pushrods from Kivinummi. Edelbrock Performer aluminium intake manifold. Hedman shorty headers.

- Rear end:

Ford C2 8" (203 mm) case.

Motive High Performance series, 3.80 ratio.

Yukon DuraGrip clutch-type locker.

Timken bearings, seals, etc.

Floor shifter fitted because the column shifter links don't fit with these headers.

- Stereo: Kenwood head unit, Alpine amp, 6x9" (15.2 x 22.9 cm) speakers on the parcel shelf.

- Grant wooden steering wheel. Interior reupholstered; floor currently has bitumen matting and felt. Includes the original-shaped floor covering, a hole will need to be cut for the shifter.

- Tyres bought new; used this summer but still in great condition. American Racing wheels 15x8" (38.1 x 20.3 cm).

Front disc brakes from Volvo and power brake booster fitted.

Cons.

- Shudders at 90 km/h; cause unclear. Below this speed it's fine but the car is willing to go faster.

- Rear gearbox mount needs replacing; it's corroded and may be causing vibration. The fuel pickup should be moved to the rear of the tank and a sump welded in so the injection does not draw air when the tank empties.

- Exhaust downpipes need replacing on one side. TV cable bracket must be renewed in the engine bay and the lever ratio checked. Throttle cable needs replacing — wrong type, throttle currently opens only to 64%.

- Side window seals (doors and rear quarters) need to be rebuilt in place; seals are available. There's a hole in the front water tray letting water in — weldable easily but floors need protection. Door seals should be sourced from a repair-rubber supplier.

Much work done; small jobs remain. Over €20,000 has been spent on the car. Now for sale due to lack of space and storage issues.

Not a concours car, but in good running order — quite a raw drive since power assistance is only on the brakes. Great character and seen many cruises this summer.

The vehicle received a 2-year inspection sticker in May and has been driven since. A new project requires the space.
