The ready-to-use freezing toilet does not need a water connection, sewer or ventilation installation. Simply plug it into a socket. The oval 21‑litre inner bucket fits a biodegradable bag that can be removed hygienically for composting.

The Ekohytte Frost has been designed with particular emphasis on energy economy. Optimised compressor technology and extra‑thick insulation make it extremely economical. Ekohytte Frost consumes just 0.36 kWh per 24 h — roughly half the consumption of comparable competing products. The thick base insulation and high adjustable feet allow use on underfloor‑heated floors; the unit must be installed in a heated interior.

Before use

• When you remove the product from its packaging, check for any damage. Contact the seller if you find any damage.

• Keep the unit upright for at least half an hour. Any oil that may have entered the refrigerant circuit during transport will then return to the compressor.

• The unit has adjustable feet. Adjust them before use so the toilet is stable and level.

• The seat is intended for compostable waste, including toilet paper. Do not put anything that will not compost in the bucket (e.g. rubbish, sanitary pads, chemicals, detergents, matches, ash or cigarette butts).

Placement
The toilet must be placed indoors in a heated space. It can be used on underfloor heating because of the thick base insulation and high feet. Heat will increase the unit's power consumption, so we do not recommend placing it immediately next to a radiator or other heat source. The optimal room temperature is +10 to +22 °C, maximum +30 °C. Place the toilet level and secure it using the adjustable feet.

Use

• Press the base of the bio bag to the bottom of the bucket and fold its edges over the rim so the bucket can be lowered into the seat.

• Ensure the bucket handle is inside so the seat ring and lid close properly.

• Plug into the mains and switch the unit on; the green indicator will light.

• Wait about one hour before first use.

Emptying

• Change the bio bag when the bucket is about two thirds full.

• Fold the top edge of the bag into the bucket and lift the bucket out of the seat.

• Compost the waste in a domestic or garden compost bin, adding plenty of dry cover material before emptying.

• Pierce the surface of the bag, e.g. with a pitchfork, and cover with a layer of dry material.

• Check for ice build‑up around the bucket recess. Defrost and dry the walls if necessary.

• Fit a new bag.

Use of cover material
Cover material is not needed in a freezing toilet. It should only be added during subsequent composting.

Cleaning
Clean the Ekohytte by wiping with a damp cloth. You may use any common household cleaners. The bucket can be removed from the seat and washed with water. Dry it before refitting. Do not use water to clean the rear wall; vacuum it once a year.

Longer periods of non‑use

• Unplug the unit.

• Empty, clean and dry the bucket and refrigerant well.

• Leave the lid open.

• The unit can be stored in an unheated space.
