UPDATE 20 July 2026: Several parties have reported that the model year is 1972. It may still have been registered in 1971, but the actual model year is 1972.

What a market! Now on offer is a treat that few have even seen, even in dreams! But this is true. This vehicle was commissioned for auction by a known retiree and another car from the same place is coming, so keep the suspense alive.

This example is a rare Volkswagen Transporter T2 flatbed. The vehicle was driven into storage over 35 years ago fully roadworthy and was brought to daylight on 17 July 2026 by tractor. Fitted underneath are brand-new, all-weather coarse-tread tyres bought at the time and left in storage for decades, and the brakes have also been freed, so it moves easily onto a trailer. The engine turns and the gearbox works. The battery was connected for testing but the starter did not engage (warning lights did illuminate). The last service was carried out in 1989, so it’s certainly overdue! The vehicle’s true mileage is unknown, but the odometer is likely on its second turn.

The car has been photographed as accurately as possible for the listing. The cab, flatbed and sides are in good condition and the doors close like a safe. Missing parts include headlights (they fit a Beetle, turned 90 degrees) and side mirrors. The mirrors might still be found and fitted, but there are no guarantees. The headlights were supposed to be on a shelf in the garage, but we unfortunately could not find them. The body has rust damage, which is why it was taken out of use. On the bed are the wheels that were under the vehicle during storage; the rims are usable after refurbishment.

The vehicle’s model year is the owner’s recollection, but the registration number is known and it has been AAJ-882. We have not yet found the old/most recent registration extract, but the search is ongoing. No records are found via Trafi because removal from the register was so long ago. The National Archives are on holiday for July, so if the registration extract is not found in time, we will obtain the documents from there afterwards and prepare the handover deed retroactively. The history of this vehicle is clear: it has been in the same household for decades (not necessarily from new), so there is no uncertainty in that regard.
