BMW 318, 1990, Oulu

For sale: a winter car that has been doing service as a BMW E30 318. The chassis and brakes have been modified to match the 320i model so that an M50B25 engine was registered in the papers. The engine comes from an E34 325; it has a factory-refurbished head and runs very well – starts nicely and idles smoothly. The ECU has a Zip chip, rev limiter 7,100 rpm.

The shell stood unused for about 15 years before it came to me, but the car passed inspection last autumn. The paintwork is in poor condition, but mechanically the car is good and with a little effort it can be a fun project. The tachometer does not work because it is from a four-cylinder car and therefore does not show the correct revs.

Equipment and modifications:

• M50B25 engine, conversion inspected

• ECU with Zip chip (7,100 rpm limiter)

• Large strut housings

• Disc brakes on all corners

• Recaro plush sport seats in front

• Rally steering wheel

• Bolt-on shifter to the body

• Interior otherwise tidy; seats have a few holes

• New rear licence plate included

• Also included: trunk lining plastic, various trim strips and a licence plate bracket in the boot

Renewed at the last inspection:

• Front shock absorbers

• New discs, pads and calipers on all corners

• Brake and fuel lines

• Front wheel bearings

• Cylinder head (aftermarket)

• Fuel pump

• Engine oil and filter

• Battery

• Rust repaired by welding

Notes for the next inspection:

• Welded rear differential to be replaced with an open one

• Studded tyres are borderline – may not pass inspection

• One rear light does not work

• Fuel tank fault – only one half is being used (not a reason to fail inspection)

Not a show car, but mechanically sound and fun to drive. A good E30 for the next builder or enthusiast.

Next inspection: 10 November 2026.

Imported used: EU country (First registration in Finland: 21 December 1999)

Total percentage of replaced parts 14.5% (Engine 14%, Anti-roll bar 0.5%)
