Replacement engine has done 160,000 km and has new crankshaft bearings.


A used replacement engine was fitted elsewhere. The engine has running faults. It runs better at times and worse at others.

It cuts ignition in multiple cylinders. Initially all spark plugs and coils were replaced. Running evened out and improved.

Now the tester shows ignition cut in 9 cylinders. Tried swapping the ignition units on the cylinder heads; the fault still appears in 9 cylinders. Checked the ignition coil, spark plug and coil wiring again.

Also tried changing the fuel injectors. No effect. Some days it runs well on all cylinders for a while, sometimes not. Occasionally it idles well for a short time but when revved to e.g. 4,000 rpm the fault returns.

Could also be a mechanical fault, e.g. a broken valve spring or similar.


There is also some malfunction in the gearbox. Fault codes point to a transmission hydraulic pump fault.

SMG relay replaced as a test; no effect.

This has not been investigated further yet.
