Opel Ascona, 1980, Kuopio

For sale as a turbo Ascona project/for further development. MOT inspected with no remarks and next MOT due by 5 May 2028. The previous MOT was 20 years ago. All carried-out modifications have been re-inspected. The car is race‑oriented.

Technical:

• Engine: 2.4 CIH rebuilt completely. Forged pistons, Po‑Metall crank, block decked and aligned, surfaces corrected, oil pump fitted with a diesel pick‑up base plate, crankshaft checked for straightness and balanced. Cometic head gasket, 12.9 head bolts, head ported and built by Kosunen. Intake manifold shortened from a 6‑cyl manifold. Injectors Siemens Deka 870 cc. Tatech T6 ECU with wasted‑spark. Tubular exhaust manifold. Holset HX40 turbo. 40 mm wastegate. 3.5" exhaust with one silencer. Intercooler 450x300x75 mm. Volvo radiator with fan.

• Gearbox: BMW 5‑speed Getrag sport with inverted linkage and removable clutch housing. Sachs clutch setup with 4‑paddle 228 mm sintered disc.

• Rear axle: Volvo 1030 fitted with an adapted Omega preloaded locker. Driveshafts converted to 4x100. Adjustable four‑link with uniball ends. Strut posts.

• Brakes: front from MV6/Omega, rear Volvo discs with VW calipers.

• In the boot: collector fuel cell with a Walbro 525 Hellcat pump.

Body/interior:

• All front ball joints and track rods new.

• New tyres: front 195/50‑16, rear 215/45‑16. Wheels: front 7.5x16" and rear 9x16".

• Sport seats and additional gauges fitted: fuel pressure, oil pressure, wideband (AFR), boost gauge and GPS speed display.

• Four‑wheel alignment performed.

Then the negatives:

• The car has not been tuned for this setup. It requires dyno tuning. It is currently driveable, but I recommend trailer pickup.

• Before dyno tuning it needs a larger wastegate.

• Headlining is missing.

• Trim/soundproofing is missing around the rear seats.

• The rear axle causes a severe rattling to the body as the link rods are attached only with uniballs and there are no rubber bushes.

Sold as a project/for further development. With these components the engine should produce roughly 400–500 hp (≈ 294–368 kW) on the track.

Total replaced parts 28.5% (Rear seats 1%, Engine 14%, Front seats 1%, Rear axle 4%, Front bumper 0.5%, Gearbox and driveline 8%).
