Nissan X-TRAIL, 2005, Rovaniemi

- The car was taken out of use on 24 April, but driven around the block so it still runs. Body in good condition; a couple of rust spots were welded last autumn. I have had the car for about nine months, of which it has been in active use for about six months. A 1000 W hose-type engine heater has been fitted. An auxiliary light has taken in moisture; it works but the output has weakened considerably. Includes some spare parts and a second driveshaft fitted with a T31 bearing. The driveshaft has not been used since the bearing was fitted.

- The A/C evaporator was replaced last spring and other air-con servicing was done. It blows cold and warm, but exact temperature control is not perfect.

- An engine rebuild was carried out professionally in 2024. The head was straightened, a new timing kit fitted and the bottom end re-bearered.

- All shock absorbers were replaced last autumn. See the photo of the service book where I have logged the work.

- The car has a 5.1 cm (2 in) lift; it is not approved as a modification but there were no comments when I took it for the MOT.

- Two sets of tyres with wheels; the photo shows the summer/mud tyres. At full lock the wheel rubs slightly on the body, but not dramatically and it does not affect normal driving. The winter tyres are studded and have only been used this winter, so under 2,000 km.

- Bluetooth radio replaced.

Faults and notes:

- The fuel gauge does not work, apparently a common fault on these cars. Driven by the trip meter and a 10 L can of petrol is kept in the boot at all times :)

- Recirculation works intermittently; otherwise it only draws in outside air.

- The biggest fault is the engine 'spluttering' at around 2,500 rpm under hard acceleration. If the warning light comes on it gives fault codes for ignition misfires in multiple cylinders. The warning may appear but sometimes clears itself. It does not misfire when driven gently. You can pass the MOT by clearing the code if the light is on :) For this the spark plugs, coils and the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors have been replaced.
