Volkswagen Crafter, 2007, Oulu

Faults/Notes:

• Rust.

• Occasionally gives a turbo boost error and goes into limp mode. It clears after restarting. Suspected turbo wear, a vacuum system fault, or a clogging diesel particulate filter. For example, during this past winter the fault did not occur, although use has mostly been light commuting.

• Air conditioning does not work. Likely a leak in the system and possibly a faulty compressor. Last worked in summer 2023 when I replaced the evaporator and had a service done.

• The cabin temperature actuator does not work properly. It switches only between extremes (hot and cold). The direct fresh‑air vents on the dashboard compensate reasonably well.

• Central locking works, but the vehicle does not detect the driver’s door being opened. If only the driver’s door is opened and nothing else (for example the key is not put in the ignition), the vehicle locks the doors after a short while. Possibly a wiring harness fault.

• Slight seepage of oil from the base of the crankcase ventilation and possibly from the base of the filter housing. No visible stain; I have not cleaned or added oil for inspection.

• Brake pad wear sensors broken — warning shown on the instrument cluster.

• Right‑hand rear mudflap detached.

• Timing components (belt, sprockets and water pump) replaced in 2020 and driven 74,000 km since — approaching replacement interval.

• Oils and filters last changed Sep 2024 at 331,000 km (engine oil, engine and fuel filters).
