EDIT 10 April 2026: It was left parked last winter. Has had little use; with the current owner since 2014. Serviced and repaired regularly. The battery has been kept indoors on charge over winter but has sometimes gone flat, so its condition is uncertain. The fault noticed was a rubbing brake dust shield; a photo was taken and in the picture it looks as if a control-arm end might be cracked, but it could equally be a surface-rust fissure. We haven’t risked driving it since, only moved it once or twice in the car park. So it hasn’t actually been confirmed as broken. Not used at the office. The ABS pump gives an error code; this is a known fault on these models. There was sometimes a campaign and VW repaired older cars but that has ended. A new pump can be expensive; used ones can be found for €15–€150, some checked on eBay; there are YouTube guides on how to replace it yourself. If the pump itself is faulty you can take the control unit from the old one so coding isn’t required. Before the last and the previous MOT both sill boxes were welded by a professional. The edges of the wheel arches etc. were sanded and treated with Fertan a year ago; this is claimed to last six months as-is but should ideally be repainted. There shouldn’t be rot elsewhere. The engine, gearbox and driving have never had any problems. Now it has stood for almost the whole winter so no guarantees. Brake discs have been replaced at times; previously there was at least a rear sensor fault. Now they may be rusty again. Two half-shafts were replaced 1–1.5 years ago. Cruise control has not worked while we’ve owned it; I recall it gave an error code from the stalk. After 07/2024 the front springs were replaced, the left sill box welded (the right was done earlier) and those wheel-arch edges treated.
