Now up for auction: a W124 with an exceptional history!

This example was imported to Finland from Germany in 2003 and, over the following 20 years, has had only one user (an elderly lady). The other seats have barely been used — only the driver’s seat. No alcoholic drinks were enjoyed in the car, no cigarettes were smoked and it hasn’t been roughly handled or had people jumping on the roof. As the owner grew older the car passed briefly to her son in 2023 and then to an MB enthusiast who never got around to working on it, and from there it came to us. In practice, only one person has driven this car in Finland.

The car is in very tidy, well-presented condition — for example the doors and hatches close like new. The car even smells like a dealership (Veho), even though it didn’t come from there (unbelievable!). Note the unusually neat Karo interior and the Becker car radio fitted when new to this example. The attractive graphite metallic paint gives a premium feel. Extremely quiet both to drive and mechanically; there is no soot-packed sump in the engine bay but a modern multi‑valve petrol engine coupled to an automatic gearbox. It can be so quiet in the cabin that some electric cars could come second.

Now for the less positive side. The car does not have a valid inspection; the inspection expired September 2024. The front wings have typically rotted at the leading edges and need repair or replacement and repainting. There is welding required in the rear wheel arches and the front mounting of the left rear trailing arm is typically rotten, with small beginnings on the right side as well. There are also small welding jobs needed at the front end. The car is roadworthy, but the right rear brake pipe by the hose is damp. If you collect the car by driving it away, be prepared to take a bottle of brake fluid on the trip. The car has a dual‑circuit brake system, so you will not lose all braking, but the recommended method of collection is by trailer. The reflector surfaces in the headlamp bowls have started to flake and the battery is no longer in peak condition. The car currently has only the wheels shown fitted with studded tyres. The previous owner has purchased new parts for museum registration restoration and stored them in the boot, including front and rear brake discs, brake pads for all corners, handbrake shoes with fittings, rear brake calipers, rear shock absorbers and some service parts.
