Mercedes-Benz CLS, 2007, Ylöjärvi

Hello, this nice-looking Mercedes‑Benz CLS550 came to me last summer in part-exchange. It has the newer 5.5-litre V8 producing a pleasant 388 hp. The car is imported from Japan and the odometer currently shows just under 143,000 km (about 142,738 km). The body is in tidy condition, striking white with an AMG body kit, AMG 19" wheels, and a neat carbon-fibre rear spoiler and diffuser. The exhaust has likely been modified at the rear cans to give a more masculine V8 note. Inside is a generally clean black leather interior. The head unit has been replaced with an Android unit with a large screen, so it's easier to play music via Bluetooth. There's a screen above the rear‑view mirror connected to a reversing camera. I drove the Mercedes without issues for a few days last summer — it drove well. A nice car for years to come either as a daily or a hobby car. The car comes only with the wheels and studded tyres shown below; there are no additional sets of wheels and tyres. Original service folder with the Japanese service book and services performed in Finland are noted. Two keys included.

Then why the Mercedes needs repair:

The immobiliser in the ECU suddenly engaged — the electrics power up but the ECU does not authorise starting. The ECU has been replaced and cloned, and the suspicion is that the cloning was not entirely successful.

Therefore the car cannot be driven until this is fully resolved and repaired. Attached is a diagnostic report from a nearby workshop from a few days ago: "No fault codes related to starting; parameters of the immobiliser cannot be read from the engine control unit; from the ignition switch it appears the engine control unit does not give start permission." So there appears to be a bit-level fault that needs solving to get the car running — hence it's sold for repair.

Other notable, non-driving-impairing items:

• Small crack in the front valance, see pictures.

• Headlamp housings have been painted from the inside and show some bubbling.

• The rear of the headliner adhesive has come slightly loose and formed a sag.

• The head unit is replaced and generally stays in place but is a little loosely fitted.

• Will require an MOT once back in running order.

The Mercedes has been stored indoors in a dry hall all winter and has only been outside for a couple of days, so it has not been left outdoors all winter.

Probably a Mercedes specialist garage can sort and program the ECU; there isn't one locally and I have other projects waiting for the summer, so this goes on as-is.

If the reserve is not met I will look for a garage to repair it and the car will be offered for sale normally at some point.
