Defects and other observations

During a short test drive we made the following observations:

  • At idle the engine makes a rattling noise that stops when the accelerator is pressed and returns when the car is idling. I suspect the alternator belt/tensioner pulley is making the noise. This has not been investigated further.

  • The engine runs for driving and the gearbox shifts smoothly.

  • Reasons for the MOT fail:

    • Brake force imbalance at the rear too large

    • Broken spring on the left rear

    • Rust damage to the left sill/rocker panel

    • Excessive play in the right rear wheel bearing

    • Front right brake disc corroded

    • Excessive play in the front left wheel bearing

    • Excessive variation in stud depth between tyres

We have not carried out a technical inspection of the car and not all equipment has been tested. There may be hidden faults we did not notice during the test drive and inspection.
