Honda Monkey "matching numbers" '76 green (so-called small tank), Vantaa

A rare green small‑tank project with the original working engine and a known history!

In 1976 the colour options were yellow‑white and green; only 1,265 were sold new in total. I believe the green ones are considerably rarer than the yellow, as most adverts from that year show the yellow Monkey.

The moped's history is fully known. It was bought from a friend who was the second owner. His father bought it from a workmate around 2005 and that workmate had bought it new. I also contacted that original workmate and he confirmed the history.

The last owner remembered that when the moped was bought from the workmate it had been mostly stored in a shed and was practically like new.

The moped was repainted at a bodyshop in 2013 and some parts were renewed then.

The engine is original and has never been rebuilt. It does run, though it has not been started for a few years and may need the carburettor cleaning etc.

Matching numbers — frame 1117929, engine 1117556 — confirmed by Brandt. The moped was originally a green small‑tank and was sold new on 6 April 1977.

There are no records of the moped at Trafi; the transfer document is available.

Good points:

• Very rare model — only 1,265 yellow and green units made in total.

• Engine runs. The moped has been stored and may require starting/tinkering.

• Year and colour information confirmed by Brandt.

• History is known.

• Matching‑numbers project — value is preserved.

• Keys for the tank cap and ignition are present.

• Many parts were renewed at one time, such as the original Keihin carburettor, tyres, etc.

Bad points:

• Requires restoration / a full or at least partial overhaul.

• Has stood unused for years; according to the previous owner it was working before it was stored.

• Parts are missing. At least the tail light is missing and the rear mudguard is poorly attached.

• The tyres do not hold air.

• Some parts do not belong to this year model or are aftermarket, such as the shocks, rear mudguard and headlight with instruments.

• Poor paint on the side panel.

Attached are a couple of adverts from 1976 and the last photo is of an original green 1976 Monkey showing the factory colour scheme. Restoring the original colour would only require repainting the front fork and the side panel.
