We are now auctioning a nice, well-preserved old E Kadett — sometimes nicknamed the “egg” Kadett. I see potential here even for someone who wants to try owning a classic as a hobby with a small outlay and minimal fuss. This is also perfectly usable as an everyday car year-round. It is offered with a very low starting price, so this is a good opportunity. Where else do you get a lightly driven, tidy, extensively serviced, freshly waxed and nearly a year MOT-valid car for just over a thousand euros?!


This Kadett wears a stunning ice-blue metallic paint and really has under 100,000 km on the clock. New seat covers were fitted when new, so the original seats underneath should be flawless. It was rust-protected when delivered new and treated again later in its life. There are inner wheel arches and mudflaps front and rear on every corner, so this example does not suffer the usual rust issues. The original aerodynamic, wind‑tunnel shaped hubcaps are also still present, thankfully. A radio was never fitted, but I found a feature you don’t often see even on expensive luxury cars: there is a service light in the engine bay.


The car was recently MOT'd with no remarks and the next MOT is due by 1 February 2027. Before that inspection a more extensive service was carried out in January, including replacement of the engine oil(s), oil filter, air filter, spark plugs, ignition leads, timing belt, auxiliary drive belt, water pump, coolant and radiator. It should therefore be fairly trouble-free to drive.


The winter tyres are very old Nokian tyres, which will certainly be noisier than modern tyres. They still seem to have grip. For summer there are at least summer tyres available, possibly two sets with less wear. Fortunately the tyre size is inexpensive, so tyre costs shouldn’t be a problem.

  • Slight brake shudder when braking from higher speeds

  • Typical oil seepage from the base of the valve cover on these engines
